Day 05 : A song that reminds me of someone

Ok this song actually reminds of two people. One is Nick Flegg and the other is David Rose. The three of us were at Dundees Sports Bar in good old Poole, Dorset attending yet another one of the Tuesday Night Karaoke session.

So our mate Nick picks GOLD! Yea yea that 80's song by Spandau Ballet go have a look at it.

But here's the funny part...suddenly while Dave and I are busy cheering him on and singing along too...Nick darling decided (completely unaware) to burst into the IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL TEAM version of the song. So the lovely classic song turned into a footy chant. I'll out down the lyrics of what it should have been and what it was!

ORIGINAL PLAYING ON THE BIG SCREEN FOR ALL TO SEE AND SING
Gold
always believe in your soul
you've got the power to know
you're indestructible
always believe in, because you are
gold

And our lad sang this instead

Alan Lee.. goal,
Always believing,
Always believe he will score,
You got the power to know,
You're indestructible,
Always believing...

He didn't realise but the entire bar was looking puzzled while Dave and I nearly died laughing!

The next time we went he sat on the sidelines! :p

So everytime I hear this song I get a stitch afterwards from laughing too hard!

Good times! Good times!

Day 04 : A song that makes me sad

Many songs make me sad...it's quite sad. But sad not in a bad way but in a really emotional way. And I think it's got more to do with the video of the song or perhaps a negative association because of something happening to someone else.

Whatever it is it makes me sad. And now writing this is making me a bit sad.

I've dug out the original version written by Wayne Cochran in 1962 and originally performed by Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders. Apparently it was about two 16 year olds on a date earlier that year and the song played out in reality. :(

It has been covered as we all know and because Pearl Jam's version is so beautiful I've put them both up.

And Pearl Jam one is at this link. It's not an original vid so didn't want to embed it.

And yea this one is a day late.

Day 03 : A song that makes me happy

This is a bit of a toughie because I like music so much...it makes me happy in general. And it's even harder to pick one single song that make me happy. I think it's because I associate happy occasions with the song that was playing in the back ground so automatically the song reminds me of the happy moment. Thus

Happy moment = happy me = happy song = reminds me of happy moment = happy me again

Played ProEvolution Soccer and after a long long drive and hunt for a parking spot finding one + Nick Flegg = HAPPY ME = Champions League = everytime it plays now = HAPPY ME.

I can't really find a url to the version I like so I'll sort it out soon.

DIE BESTEN!

Day 02 - My least favourite song

WONDERWALL by OASIS

I can't pin point why it's my least favourite song exactly but many things factor in to my eventual decision. To begin with it is a ludicrously monotonous song and Noel Gallager's dead pan voice doesn't do much to help!

So it really gets on my nerves! I admit that it was once named the BEST SONG of ALL TIME. But I really don't get why! Well...for me anyway.

But note I do not HATE it...it's just my least favourite!

Haz que tu quinta mi Rafa!

It’s not really that I dislike Federer but I like Nadal more. Ok ok…I dislike FedEx but not his game. Hence why, I am thrilled that Nadal is in the final at Roland Garros today.

I’m not a 100% he will win against Soderling but atleast he proved to the entire world that he is capable of getting to the final. And with style as well. Not dropping a set on clay to people like Hewitt is really no joke. Which brings me to my main point... Rafael Nadal is no joke.

I’ve heard several fans of Roger Federer (One of my closest friend Anisha Phillip is the one I am targeting most!) say that Nadal is an absolute joker starting from his clothes to his…er… erm…slightly - absurd - backside - involving – habit, down to his game.

Some, who say they are ‘real’ tennis fans, believe Nadal is only popular with the women because he is cute and hot. I for one don’t think he is astoundingly cute really and certainly not hot. I like him because of his drive to win. And he only is cute to the level that he says ‘no?” after almost any given sentence. He thinks “no” is a full stop…yes that is kind of cute.

But aside from all the supposed female fan following…he is popular because of tennis. No amount of fan following would bring some one to Number 1 ranking. I agree that he hovers mostly at 2 but still that is saying a lot. I also agree that Fed is better on most surfaces but lets face it…FedEx needed Soderling to do what he couldn’t. And Soderling did. So in my book…even Soderling is a better clay court player than RF. But I am mildly biased.

Anyway, Fed wins most events and the one or two that he doesn’t suddenly turn into a “Let’s mock the living daylights out of Rafael Nadal because we are angry that Federer lost”. I genuinely think that Fed fans need to give the lad some credit.

Fed lost to Soderling…so hate Soderling! But no…most facebook statuses changed to “Damn Nadal”. What? How does that happen? He was probably busy hunting for some tightish short to wear for his next game. Leave him be!

Besides, try as anyone might, the simply cannot deny that fact that he is four time champion on the clay court with a potential fifth title if he wins today (God if you are listening please let Rafa win today!) That has got to be good from any angle that it is looked at. Why Roger winning some few times at SW19 makes him the King of Grass…then why is Nadal not given the credit he is due on clay.

Bah…sore losers. Like Federer I suppose! :p

I came across this fabulous article in the NY Times about the game this evening…have a look. It’s a beautiful and unbiased analysis of the delightful players involved in the final and then some about Fed too. Nadal and Soderling, by the numbers.

Peace out and more importantly…VAMOS RAFA!

Day 01: MY FAVOURITE SONG

There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that is was to be my favourite song. I must emphasise that I have had several temporary favourite songs but this was is my ultimate favourite song.

30 days of music

Wow it really has been aeons since I came on here. I’ve been on and off writing stuff but seem to have neglected my own darling blog.

So here I am after a wonderful holiday (I’ll post stuff up about that too) to join in with the 30 days of music cult (ish).

My friend Karunya suggested this and I though…hey I love music and what better way to restart the blog than writing about something I am passionate about. So over the month I’ll do as she has done. (Her musical musings are at Little Green Mango)
